Executive Functioning Skills:
Assessment and advice

Thinking and decision making skills for life and learning.

These are the skills that develop through childhood and adolescence that enable us to monitor and manage our behaviour, solve problems and achieve goals. There are often associated with dyslexia, ADHD and DCD/dyspraxia but there can be many reasons why some of these skills are weak and help is needed.

Executive functioning skills can be learnt and assessment forms the basis for guidance on support and intervention, enabling strategies to be taught and practised, building skills for life.

The skills are:

  • Response inhibition

  • Emotional control

  • Working memory

  • Sustained attention

  • Task initiation

  • Flexibility

  • Planning and prioritisation

  • Goal directed persistence

  • Time management

  • Metacognition

  • Organisation

Assessment, combined with an interview over Zoom, provides information for a personal report with detailed advice.
